A YEAR WITHOUT GRANDPA
A YEAR WITHOUT GRANDPA

How can it be that it's already been a year
When it seems like yesterday that you were here,
Smiling at us with those piercing blue eyes?
Next thing we know we're saying our goodbyes.
How can it be that time still marches on
When it's still hard to accept that you're gone?
It hasn't been easy, the tears come hard and fast,
Though it's comforting to know that your memory will last.
Our broken hearts have shed an ocean of tears,
Waiting for the day when our cloudy sky clears.
Do the angels in heaven cry for us too,
Knowing how deeply we all miss you?
It may be selfish for us to want you here;
Maybe it is, but it's only been a year.
They say that time can heal all pain,
So why does it feel like we're caught in the rain?
Why do our tears still fall when we think of you?
Why does our existence seem so empty and blue?
Still we plod on, and everyday we pray
That God will shine his light and vanquish the gray.
We pray that all of His angels will take special care
Of a great man we know named Gilbert V. Bear.
It seems like yesterday that you were here...
But it's already been one long and lonely year.
