No Escape

Gentle, her touch upon my face.
Brightly, her luminous smile shines upon me.
Her song washes over my skin like satin.
She beckons to me…
Teases me…
I can hear my blood rushing,
My head pounding;
I try to resist.
I cry to her,
“Why must it be this way?
So close that my eyes can see you,
That my heart can feel you,
But I reach, as high as I can,
Stretching up until my muscles ache,
And still you are so far from my grasp?
Why?”
But she does not answer me…
She cannot answer me…
She is who she is,
Protector of the night,
A born temptress.
I try once more, on tiptoes, to reach her,
But she fades, ever paler, fading away,
The sun banishing her, banishing me,
And all my hopes of escape.
Day again, though night reigns in my heart.
As the sky brightens, my chin falls to my chest.
I walk away and whisper,
“Goodbye. Take me tomorrow, then.”
But she is already gone.
