LOVE IS LOVE

Moonlight shining from star spangled skies,
Unshed tears glistening like dawn’s sweet dew.
Silly dreams and melancholy good-byes,
Realizing that love is love, but not quite true.

Lovers parting ‘neath moonlit night,
Hearts trembling with unexpressed sorrow.
Regretting something that wasn’t right,
Leery still of a separate tomorrow.

One final brushing of reluctant lips,
Gazes locked, hearts aching, breaking,
Quivering in each other’s grips,
Old memories quietly waking.

Standing beneath another night’s moon,
Different lovers in another time.
New lovers humming a different tune;
Yet, something somewhere refused to rhyme.

Words unspoken midst silent pain,
Reluctantly but slowly letting go.
Fighting for control, trying to contain,
Turning away as the tears start to flow.

Sweet beginnings, bitter endings ‘neath the same moonlit sky.
Though love is love, somehow they knew
The time had come to say good-bye,
For their love was not quite true.
