GRANDFATHER'S GIFT

Dear God, can you do a favor for me?
Grandpa's no longer with us you see.
We lost him just this July past;
He's left us to be with you at last.
Dear God, can you find him for me
Can you give him a message from the family?
Please tell him that we miss him so
And that we wish he hadn't had to go.
Tell him also that we're ever so glad
That he's no longer suffering or feeling sad.
We know he's happier within Heaven's gates;
Still, it's hard to bear the weights
Of saying goodbye and letting him go.
Lord, let him know that we miss him so.
This Christmas, although he'll be with you,
Tell him we'll remember him through and through.
We'll remember his smile and bright blue eyes
That twinkled brighter than any star in the skies.
We'll remember his strength, his love and his heart;
We'll remember his humor, his warmth and his art.
Christmas this year will be a little blue
Without Grandpa here to talk to.
So Lord, can you leave just one gift under our tree?
Just Grandpa forever etched into our memory.
Please, Lord, let Grandpa know we'll be okay
So he can go with light heart and play
Among the wonder and beauty of Heaven above;
One more thing, Lord: give Grandpa our love.
Wish him Merry Christmas from his family down below.
We will join him once more when it's our time to go.
As we set an angel atop our Christmas tree,
We'll know that he's up there with you--
Watching over his family.
